City Hall – New Exhibition Space
Posted May 31, 2017.
LOCATION: Donegal Square North, Belfast
COMPLETION DATE: May 2017
CLIENT: Belfast City Council
MAIN CONTRACTOR: JD Mc Geown Ltd
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
JD McGeown Ltd has worked on the successful conversion of Belfast City Councils ground floor civic offices and public function areas turning them into exciting new visitor attraction and exhibition space.
The City Hall’s east wing on the ground floor has been completely renovated to facilitate the new tourist attraction, which has its own dedicated reception area. The exhibition stretches over 18 separate rooms, all presented within the original architecture of City Hall as designed by Alfred Brumwell Thomas in the late 1890s.
Due to the sensitivity surrounding the public exhibition area the 26-week contract demanded extensive co-ordination and liaison with Belfast City Council engineers and client appointed specialist contractors.
The challenges presented by this project included installation within a fixed time period, secured through meticulous pre planning and team management working with Belfast City Council.
Belfast City Hall remained fully operational during the process of the conversion and our engineers had to be mindful to avoid any disruption to the Councils normal working schedule.
