J.D.McGeown Ltd are delighted to announce that 4 of our recently completed project’s, mainly the Tropical Ravine Belfast, Bunzl Ireland Armagh, Newry Leisure Centre & Belfast City Hall Exhibition Space have been shortlisted within a total of 5 off the 8 categories of the prestigious RICS Awards 2018, Northern Ireland Region which takes place on the 24th May 2018 at La Mon Hotel & Country Club, we wish every success to each our relevant partners within each of their respective categories.

J.D.McGeown Ltd have recently been appointed by MSM Contracts Ltd to carry out the Electrical Services Installation for this project. The works comprise the construction of an additional storey above the existing ground and first floors providing 17 new bedrooms as well as the refurbishment of 47 existing bedrooms. Having completed the original installation in 2001 we feel well placed to deliver this project for Andras House. Works have already commenced on site with a completion date of April 2018.

J.D.McGeown Ltd are delighted to continue & strengthen are long established relationship with Graham Interior Fit-Out have recently been appointed by them to carry out the Electrical Services Installation Fit-Out for this project. The works comprise the fit-out of the 7th floor to include offices, studio’s, IT room’s, transmission room, kitchen/breakout & extensive reception areas. Works have already commenced on site with an anticipated overall contract period of 16 weeks.

J.D.McGeown Ltd are delighted to have been appointed to carry out the installation of the Belfast City Hall Christmas Illuminations by Belfast City Council. This is the 4th consecutive year that these works have been entrusted to ourselves, works have already commenced on-site with imminent completion prior to the big switch on the 18th.

Another spectacular industrial project has just been completed by JD McGeown and on this occasion, we have been delivering for the distribution and outsourcing firm Bunzl Ireland in building new offices and distribution centre in Armagh.

It is a project spanning 85,000 sq ft on the Moy Road outside the city developed for its hospitality divisions, Bunzl McLaughlin and Bunzl Rafferty, which supply businesses around Ireland. The impressive new facilities were handed over at the end of June with JD McGeown working to the wire for the completion deadline.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

This project involved a major expansion and refurbishment of the Bernard Cross-land Building (BCB) at Queens University Belfast. This expansion will see the exist-ing BCB double in size, with increased numbers of computing resources, more pro-ject space and additional seating/social areas for students.

The objective is to create a high-quality transparent building that establishes a discrete identity for Computer Science, integrating both teaching and research; and to deliver a stimulating environment for staff and students. This includes formal and informal student space which can support increasing levels of group and project work.

The new four-storey 3,000m2 building, with a glazed front elevation will be built round and extends the concrete frame of the existing structure and is linked to the Computer Science accommodation in 14 and 16 Malone Road. It will offer a variety of large and small computer labs, project spaces, breakout rooms, a Student Hub spanning three floors, academic and clerical offices, and postgraduate spaces.
In keeping with the University’s commitment to sustainability, the building has been designed to minimize its impact on the environment and to achieve the target of Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) “Excellent” rating.

Completed using BIM (Building Information Modelling), providing a 3D co-ordinated Revit Model to LOD 4 permitting co-ordination, clash detection & construction sequencing prior to site works and for asset management by the clients FM team post construction.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Office remodelling and extensive refurbishment of 90 Lisburn Road, on behalf of the Medical, Health and Life Sciences Faculty for Queen’s University Belfast was the remit of this project.
Internal remodelling and extensive refurbishment of the 1st, 2nd & 3rd floors was carried out. The project involved working in an operational building with sitting tenants on the ground and fourth Floor. Works commenced mid-June with completion prior to the start of the new academic semester in August.

It was a complex task addressed with expertise and experience gained from working on so many commercial office fit outs. The project demanded meticulous planning before any works were undertaken and required close working relationships with QUB at every stage being careful to ensure that disruptions were kept to a minimum.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The project entailed the internal remodelling and extensive refurbishment of offices on the 1st, 2nd & 3rd floors of these premises to provide additional office space and accommodation for the admission’s department Queen’s University Belfast.

The works were awarded by QUB after the successful completion of an office fit out of the adjacent property, 90 Lisburn Road for QUB Medical, Health and Life Sciences Faculty.

JD McGeown Ltd continues to win further new contracts at Queens University Belfast.

On this occasion our team is working on the Lanyon Building, on the main campus of Queens University, where new external fabric repair works to its west, north and south facades are the focus. Works will include repairs to and replacement of brickwork, stonework and lattice windows, repairs to and up-grading of rainwater goods, cleaning of the façade masonry, repairs to roofing and associated temporary disconnections or diversions of services to facilitate these works. Part of our project remit also extends to external lighting installation to illuminate this iconic building.

This is a lengthy contract at 90 weeks through which time the Lanyon must remain in operation as a University building .
