As part of Queens University decision to progress with the construction of a World Class Integrated Student Centre and in line with the ethos of their 2020 Vision policy, J.D.McGeown Ltd are delighted to announce the appointment by Ganson (UK) Ltd to provide the Electrical Services Installation for this project. The works involve the extensive internal refurbishment of this existing 5 storey teaching facility to provide a new home for the Student Union for the next 3 years. Works are due to commence 21st May with an extremely aggressive programme of works to ensure completion prior to the start of the students 1st Semester in September.

Now sympathetically restored to its former glory with a modern 21st-century twist it will become Belfast’s most popular tourist attractions. The new look ravine takes a step back to how the Victorians designed the original building in 1887 with old features reinstated and unique details preserved.
The £3.8 million restoration project boasts water features and lighting effect arrangements as well as the creation of a new main entrance enhancing the ravine’s visibility, functionality and presence within the gardens.
The project was not without its challenges which demanded working in close coordination and collaboration with the entire design team and the client to achieve this prestigious finish.

The installation will comprise the replacement of more than 1,000 No Fluorescent Luminaires with new LED Luminaires selected from the Philips Lighting range as well as the installation of more than 250 No PIR Lighting Sensor’s. Further to our recent appointment by Killowen Contracts for the External Fabric repairs associated with the Lanyon Building we are delighted that our services have been retained to commence the Phase 1 Refurbishment Works for the Marketing, Recruitment, Communications & Internationalisation Department for Queens University Belfast. The works comprise the significant upgrading of the existing Electrical Installation & associated Infrastructure within the Ground, 1st, 2nd & 3rd Floor areas to bring the existing facility fully in-line with the current Estates requirements. The Lanyon Building is one of N.Irelands most instantly recognisable and significant architectural landmarks and with our unrivalled experience working within the wider QUB Estate and having recently completed similar projects at other famous landmarks i.e. the Lynn Library, Belfast City Hall, Parliament Building’s & The Tropical Ravine, J.D.McGeown Ltd are well placed to deliver this project successfully within the extensive restraints of working within a Grade A listed building.
With the successful completion of both Phase 1 & Phase 2 of this project by J.D.McGeown Ltd we are delighted to have had our services retained by Felix O’Hare Ltd for the installation of a 49.68kW Photovoltaic Installation for this facility. Works are programmed to commence shortly.
J.D.McGeown Ltd are delighted to announce the appointment by Piperhill Construction Ltd for the Electrical Services Installation for this School Enhancement Project. The works comprise the refurbishment, reconfiguration & extension of the school to provide 14 classrooms c/w a new sports hall & replace the existing mobile classroom accommodation. Works have already commenced on-site with a completion date of August 2018.
The latest tenant to be announced at City Quay 2, is U105 the local radio broadcaster.
Belfast based electrical and mechanical and engineering contractors JD McGeown Ltd won the contact with Grahams Interior Fit to undertake the office fit-out for U105 as it takes over the seventh floor of City Quays 2.
The 11,400 sq ft space has been developed to create a modern broadcasting centre complete with HD studio, editing technology and office space for all of the U105 staff.
City Quays 2 is one of the largest speculative office developments in Northern Ireland in recent years and JD McGeown has worked on similar office fits out at the Soloist, Adelaide Exchange and Gasworks.
