The project includes for the demolition of the existing facility & construction a new single storey replacement building for the Education Authority, South Eastern Region. Main Contract works have already commenced on-site with an overall contract period of 52 Weeks.
J.D.McGeown Ltd are delighted to announce the appointment by Valpar Micromatic for the Supply & Installation of a new 1600A Rated Form 4 Type 3 Main Incoming LV Switchboard associated with the upgrade by the NIE of the facilities existing Electrical Infrastructure. As part of the works the existing Standby Generator & associated fuel tank will be relocated to make room for the new NIE Transformer and all existing cabling replaced. Works are currently progressing on-site with a completion date of September 2018.
J.D.McGeown Ltd are delighted to announce the recent appointment by Maghera Developments Ltd for the extension to this existing industrial unit. The work involves the construction of a two-storey steel framed extension to provide a new Kitchen/Canteen & Office area. Works are due to commence shortly with an overall contract period of circa. 16 weeks.
Further to our recent appointment by Killowen Contracts for the Phase 1 Refurbishment Works for the Marketing, Recruitment, Communications & Internationalisation Department for Queens University Belfast we are delighted to have had our services retained for the Phase 2 works. The works comprise the significant upgrading of the existing Electrical Installation & associated Infrastructure within the Ground, 1st, 2nd & 3rd Floor areas to bring the existing facility fully in-line with the current Estates requirements. The Lanyon Building is one of N.Irelands most instantly recognisable and significant architectural landmarks and with our unrivalled experience working within the wider QUB Estate and having recently completed similar projects at other famous landmarks i.e. the Lynn Library, Belfast City Hall, Parliament Building’s & The RICS ‘Project of the Year’ the Tropical Ravine, J.D.McGeown Ltd are well placed to deliver this project successfully within the extensive restraints of working within a Grade A listed building.

J.D.McGeown Ltd are delighted to announce their appointment by Woodvale Construction Company/Scott & Ewing Ltd for these works. The project comprises the enabling works for the installation of a new 1.2Mw CHP system & its integration into the existing QUB electrical distribution infrastructure at 11kV via a new 1600kVA 400-11,000V step up transformer, in addition a new programmable PLC System will be installed with extensive interlocking controls & cabling installed sitewide across all existing generators & PV systems. The award of these additional works now means that J.D.McGeown Ltd will be concurrently working on no fewer than 7 No Electrical Infrastructure projects within the wider QUB Estate. Works are due to commence 18th June with completion by 31st August 2018.
J.D.McGeown Ltd are delighted to announce that they have successfully secured these additional works in preparation by Queens University to progress with the construction of a World Class Integrated Student Centre. With appointment by Henry Brothers (Magherafelt) Ltd, J.D.McGeown Ltd will carry out the extensive internal refurbishment of the existing Ground/1st Floor areas to provide a new home for the Student Union for the next 3 years. We are no stranger to this facility having completed the internal refurbishment of the 2nd/3rd & 4th Floor areas of this building in 2017 for the QUB Admissions Department as well as the adjacent No 90 Lisburn Road for QUB Medical Health & Life Sciences Faculty. Works are due to commence on-site 28th May running concurrently with the other Student Centre Enabling Works in Elmwood Avenue also being completed by J.D.McGeown Ltd with completion of both in August 2017.
It was a very successful night at the RICS Awards 2018, Northern Ireland for J.D.McGeown Ltd, as well as being the Electrical Contractor on the overall Project of the Year/Building Conservation Project, J.D.McGeown Ltd were also delighted to have been the Electrical Contractor on Newry Leisure Centre, winner of the Regeneration category. J.D.McGeown Ltd were initially appointed by the Main Contractor Felix O’Hare Ltd for the Phase 1 works in January 2014 which included all the ‘Wet’ facilities, after successful completion of Phase 1 and after a competitive tendering process, J.D.McGeown Ltd where reappointed in March 2016 once again by Felix O’Hare Ltd for the Phase 2 works which included all the ‘Dry’ facilities. Our association with this facility is still continuing today as we are currently on-site installing a 49.68kW Photovoltaic System.a
J.D.McGeown Ltd are delighted to have been entrusted with the Electrical Services Installation for this prestigious refurbishment and restoration project. As well as being the overall winner at the RICS Awards 2018 for Northern Ireland, the Tropical Ravine also landed the Building Conservation award. Having been appointed by the Main Contractor McAleer & Teague in November 2015, J.D.McGeown worked closely both with the Architect Hall Black Douglas & Consulting Engineer AH Design to transform this overgrown corner of Botanic Gardens into a new and exciting visitor attraction fit for the 21st century.
